Job Description

  • Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires a reliable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for the Woodburn Square store. You will help provide pharmaceutical care by handling patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met responsibly.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Oncology experience
  • Third additional language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances using approved formulas and standard procedures
  • Support the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances under the responsible pharmacist’s guidance
  • Help with repackaging medicines
  • Assist in distributing and controlling stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Support ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6, following instructions from authorized persons under the Medicines Act
  • Help read and prepare prescriptions, select, measure, or mix medicines, label, and supply them after a pharmacist reviews the prescription
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within legal and SAPC guidelines
  • Enter script details correctly and confirm patient information on the system
  • Pick, pack, label, and check medications accurately, understanding common dosages and key drug interactions
  • Provide clear instructions to patients on how to use their medicines
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing
  • Ensure all medications are verified and signed by a pharmacist
  • Assist and advise patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up on patient script tracking and appointments as directed by the dispensary manager
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Share health information to promote well-being
  • Handle paperwork for accurate medical aid claims
  • Fix errors on rejected scripts
  • Secure authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Update and maintain customer profiles on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify the central system for merging
  • Check customer profile messages and take appropriate action
  • Report low stock, out-of-stock items, and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive dispensary stock following Dis-Chem’s procedures and arrange it by FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
  • Assist with bi-annual stock counts
  • Manage stock, cash, and assets effectively
