Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a reliable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Wonderboom store. In this role, you will help provide pharmaceutical care by addressing patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Computer literate, including MS Office
  • Good numerical skills
  • Strong command of English and a second language
  • Willing to work retail hours

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • A third additional language
  • Knowledge of or experience with SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines according to formulas and approved procedures
  • Support the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines following pharmacist-approved processes
  • Help with repackaging medicines
  • Manage the distribution and control of stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6, as instructed by authorized persons
  • Read and prepare prescriptions, select and compound medicines, label and supply them after a pharmacist’s review
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within legal and SAPC guidelines
  • Enter script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, knowing common dosages and drug interactions
  • Give clear instructions to patients on how to use their medicines
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures for claims and dispensing
  • Make sure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  • Advise and help patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up on script tracking reports and appointments as requested
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Share health promotion information with individuals
  • Handle paperwork for submitting claims to medical aids
  • Fix errors on scripts rejected by medical aids
  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Update and maintain customer profiles on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify UCS for central merging
  • Check and act on any messages in customer profiles
  • Report low stock, out-of-stock items, or stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive dispensary stock per Dis-Chem’s standard procedures and arrange by FEFO
  • Support bi-annual stock takes
  • Control stock, cash, and assets
