Job Description
- Dis-Chem Pharmacies needs a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for the Sefako Makgato store. You will help provide pharmaceutical care by handling patients’ medicine needs and being responsible for meeting them.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Experience working with Unisolv
- Computer literate – MS Office
- Good numerical skills
- Strong command of English and a second language
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous:
- Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
- Third additional language
- Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
- Drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assist with compounding, mixing or preparing non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances using approved formulas and standard procedures under a responsible pharmacist
- Help manufacture non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances using approved formulas and procedures
- Assist with repackaging medicines
- Help distribute and control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6, following instructions from an authorized person
- Help read and prepare prescriptions, select, mix or compound medicines, label and supply them in the right container after a pharmacist checks the prescription
- Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within legal limits set by the SAPC
- Enter script details correctly and check patient information on the system
- Pick, pack, label and check medication accurately; know common dosages and key drug interactions
- Give clear instructions to patients on how to use the supplied medicine
- Stay updated on medical aid rules for claims and dispensing
- Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
- Advise and help patients at the dispensary, self-medication area and front shop
- Follow up with patients on script tracking and appointments as asked by the dispensary manager
- Explain medical aid costs to patients
- Provide health information to promote well-being
- Handle paperwork for submitting claims to medical aids accurately
- Fix errors on scripts rejected by medical aids
- Ensure approval for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medications
- Update and maintain customer profiles on the system
- Merge local profiles and notify UCS for central merging
- Check messages on customer profiles and take appropriate action
- Report low or out-of-stock items and stock errors to the dispensary manager
- Receive dispensary stock per Dis-Chem’s procedures and arrange it using FEFO
- Help with bi-annual stock counts
- Manage stock, cash and assets properly
