Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for its Krugersdorp store. In this role, you will help provide pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met responsibly.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Experience working with Unisolv
- Computer skills, including MS Office
- Good numerical skills
- Strong English skills, plus a second language
- Willing to work retail hours
Advantageous:
- Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
- A third additional language
- Experience with SAP and E-Scripting
- Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assist in compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines following approved formulas and procedures
- Support manufacturing of non-sterile medicines under a pharmacist’s guidance
- Help with repackaging medicines
- Manage distribution and control of stock for Schedules 1 to 5 medicines
- Assist in ordering medicines up to Schedule 6 as instructed by authorized persons
- Read and prepare prescriptions, select and compound medicines, label and supply them after a pharmacist’s review
- Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within SAPC rules
- Enter script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
- Pick, pack, label, and check medications accurately, knowing common dosages and drug interactions
- Give clear instructions to patients on medicine use
- Stay updated on medical aid procedures for claims and dispensing
- Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
- Advise and help patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
- Follow up on script tracking and patient appointments as needed
- Explain medical aid costs to patients
- Share health information to promote well-being
- Handle paperwork for medical aid claims
- Fix errors on rejected scripts
- Secure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
- Update and maintain customer profiles on the system
- Merge profiles locally and notify for central merging
- Act on any messages in customer profiles
- Report low stock, out-of-stock items, or errors to the dispensary manager
- Receive and merchandise stock following Dis-Chem’s procedures and FEFO method
- Support bi-annual stock takes
- Control stock, cash, and assets
