Job Description

  • Dis-Chem Pharmacies needs a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for the Greenvalley store. You will help provide pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medicine needs and being responsible for meeting them.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Computer literate – MS Office
  • Good numerical skills
  • Strong command of English and a second language
  • Willing to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • Third additional language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances using approved formulas and procedures
  • Support manufacturing of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances following approved procedures
  • Help with repackaging medicines
  • Assist in distributing and controlling stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Support ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 as instructed by authorized persons
  • Assist with reading and preparing prescriptions, selecting, manipulating, or compounding medicines, labelling, and supplying them after a pharmacist’s review
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within legal and SAPC requirements
  • Enter script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, knowing common dosages and key drug interactions
  • Give clear instructions to patients on how to use medicines
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures for claims and dispensing
  • Make sure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  • Advise and help patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up on script tracking and patient appointments as needed
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Share health information to promote well-being
  • Handle paperwork for submitting claims to medical aids accurately
  • Fix errors on scripts rejected by medical aids
  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Update and maintain customer profiles on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify for central merging
  • Check and act on any messages in customer profiles
  • Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock issues to the dispensary manager
  • Receive dispensary stock following Dis-Chem procedures and arrange by FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
  • Support bi-annual stock counts
  • Manage stock, cash, and assets properly
