Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a reliable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its new store at East Rand Mall. In this role, you will help provide pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met responsibly.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Experience working with Unisolv
- Computer literate, including MS Office
- Good numerical skills
- Strong command of English and a second language
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous:
- Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
- A third additional language
- Knowledge of or experience with SAP and E-Scripting
- Understanding of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assist in compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures under a responsible pharmacist
- Support the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines as directed
- Help repackage medicines
- Manage the distribution and control of stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines
- Assist in ordering medicines up to Schedule 6 as authorized
- Read and prepare prescriptions, select and compound medicines, label and supply them after a pharmacist’s review
- Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within SAPC legal requirements
- Capture script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
- Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, knowing common dosages and drug interactions
- Give clear instructions to patients on medicine use
- Stay updated on medical aid procedures for claims and dispensing
- Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
- Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
- Follow up on script tracking and patient appointments as requested
- Explain medical aid costs to patients
- Provide health promotion information
- Process paperwork for medical aid claims accurately
- Correct errors on rejected scripts
- Secure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
- Maintain customer profiles on the system
- Merge profiles locally and notify relevant teams for central merging
- Act on any messages in customer profiles
- Report low stock, out-of-stock items, and stock errors to the dispensary manager
- Receive and merchandise dispensary stock following Dis-Chem’s procedures and FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
- Support bi-annual stock takes
- Manage stock, cash, and asset control
