Position Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for executing and monitoring side trail dredging processes, managing auxiliary tasks, and ensuring optimal production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee side trail pipe operations to ensure maximum efficiency and reduce cycle times.
• Maintain and repair critical equipment, including depth indicators, displacement systems, and dredge deck equipment.
• Advise on optimal pipe positioning for dredging operations to maximize effectiveness and dredged quantities.
• Monitor and manage the reclaimed material process to prevent blockages and ensure safe coupling of floating lines.
• Maintain all equipment used by the pipeman, including sidetrail, pumps, and winches.

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 (NQF 4) with Maths and Science or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in a related field.
• Mechanical background is advantageous.

Competencies and Skills

• Knowledge of mechanical systems.
• First aid at sea certificate.
• Advanced firefighting certificate.
• Restricted radiotelephone operator’s certificate (Marine).
• Personal safety and survival techniques.
• Numeracy and computer literacy.
• Code 8 driver’s license (B).
• Ability to work in a team and demonstrate leadership.
• Good communication skills and attention to quality standards.

Special Requirements

• Determine safe sea working conditions.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and operate radio equipment effectively.
