Public Information, Education & Relations (PIER) Officer

Position Summary:

Coordinate public safety education programs to reduce fire-related risks and fatalities. Engage communities through strategic communication campaigns and emergency management training initiatives.

Basic Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Fire Technology (NQF Level 6)
  • Matric/Grade 12 certification
  • 6 years operational experience (2 years in community education)
  • Valid Code B driver’s license
  • Clean criminal record

Essential Certifications:

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 & 2
  • NFPA 472 Hazmat Operational
  • First Aid Level III
  • NFPA 10-35 Fire Educator 1 & 2

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop community safety programs aligned with regional risk assessments
  • Manage public information distribution and accessibility
  • Coordinate B.E.S.A.F.E training logistics and scheduling
  • Lead emergency response communications during major incidents
  • Promote EMS services through outreach initiatives
