Requirements:

  • A post-basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification that allows registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic). You must be currently registered with the SAPC.
  • Grade 1: No experience needed after SAPC registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic).
  • Grade 2: At least 5 years of relevant experience after SAPC registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic).
  • Grade 3: At least 13 years of relevant experience after SAPC registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic).
  • Computer skills are a plus. You should have basic communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of pharmaceutical processes, relevant laws and policies, record-keeping, and basic drug supply management.
  • Ability to work well in a team. Show high integrity, passion, and commitment to the profession.

Duties:

  • You will work under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pharmacist. You must carry out the duties of a post-basic Pharmacist Assistant in dispensing medication to inpatients and outpatients.
  • Help with stock control, stock taking, and cycle counts in the pharmacy. Pick, label, and issue medicines to patients under a Pharmacist’s supervision. Assist with repackaging medicines following standard procedures approved by the responsible Pharmacist.
  • Support ordering, receiving, and distributing pharmaceuticals to different areas. Do ward rounds for inventory management. Help implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Pharmacy Practice, norms, and standards.
  • Assist with general housekeeping and administrative tasks in the pharmacy as directed by the responsible or supervising Pharmacist. Support pharmacy projects and programs. Take steps to avoid unauthorized, irregular, or wasteful spending.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours as set by the pharmacy manager or supervisor.
