Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies needs a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for the Mosselbaai store. You will help provide pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Computer literate – MS Office
  • Good numerical skills
  • Strong command of English and a second language
  • Willing to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • A third additional language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist in compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances using approved formulas and procedures under a pharmacist’s guidance
  • Help manufacture non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances following approved procedures
  • Assist with repackaging medicines
  • Help manage the distribution and control of stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist in ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 as instructed by an authorized person
  • Help read and prepare prescriptions, select and compound medicines, label and supply them in appropriate containers after a pharmacist reviews the prescription
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within legal and SAPC requirements
  • Enter script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, knowing common dosages and key drug interactions
  • Give clear instructions to patients on how to use the supplied medicines
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures for claims and dispensing
  • Make sure all medications are checked and signed off by a pharmacist
  • Advise and help patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up with patients on script tracking and appointments as directed by the dispensary manager
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Provide health promotion information to individuals
  • Handle paperwork for accurate medical aid claims
  • Fix errors on rejected scripts
  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Keep customer profiles updated on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify UCS for central merging
  • Act on any messages in customer profiles
  • Report low stock, out-of-stock items, and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive dispensary stock following Dis-Chem’s procedures and arrange by FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
  • Assist with bi-annual stock takes
  • Manage stock, cash, and assets
