  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Life Science and/or Physical Science with an average of at least 50%
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant Qualification

Job Description

The responsibilities of a Pharmacist Assistant include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Assisting with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines as per the approved formula and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Participating in the manufacturing process of non-sterile medicines in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Re-packaging medicines as required.
  • Managing the distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
  • Providing health-promoting information to individuals.
  • Learning to accurately interpret prescriptions while complying with legal requirements, adhering to South African Pharmaceutical Council regulations.
  • Capturing and verifying patient details accurately within the system.
  • Ensuring precise picking, packing, labeling, and verification of medications, with an awareness of common dosages and important drug interactions.
  • Delivering accurate instructions to patients regarding the appropriate use of provided medicines.
  • Staying informed about changes in medical aid procedures and claim requirements.
  • Coordinating with pharmacists to verify the accuracy of medications prior to dispensing.
  • Advising and assisting patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop.
  • Following up with patients as requested regarding script tracking reports.
  • Explaining all medical aid costs to patients, ensuring transparency and clarity.

  • Proficiency in English and a second language (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Strong deadline-driven mentality.

Advantageous Skills

  • Knowledge of a third language.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Clear MIE, criminal, and credit records are essential.
  • Possession of a driver’s license and/or reliable transport.
