Requirements
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus a basic qualification accredited with the South African Nursing Council in terms of Government Notice 425 (i.e., Diploma / Degree in Nursing) or equivalent that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- A minimum of 7 years of appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
- A Diploma / Degree in Nursing Administration and Management is an added advantage.
- Knowledge and skills: Basic computer literacy, strong leadership, good communication, and sound interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, lead the nursing team, implement and manage change, work shifts and standby as required, and write reports.
Duties
- Plan, organize, manage, and coordinate optimal nursing services as an Operational Manager in the General Unit. Build and maintain constructive relationships with nursing staff and stakeholders, including inter-professional, inter-sectoral, and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Participate in analyzing, formulating, and implementing nursing guidelines, practices, standards, and procedures.
- Manage the use of human, financial, and physical resources effectively. Maintain professional growth, ethical standards, and self-development. Provide overall supervision after hours and on weekends.
- Ensure implementation of norms and standards, the Ideal Hospital Framework, and develop quality improvement plans.
- Manage staff performance and development, and participate in scheduled manager meetings.
- Handle discipline, grievances, and other labor-related issues according to policies and procedures.
- Manage data in the unit and submit it to the facility information office.
- Identify, develop, and control risk management systems within the unit.
- Provide a safe therapeutic environment as required by Nursing Acts, Occupational Health and Safety Acts, and other applicable rules. Implement and manage infection prevention and control protocols. Uphold Batho Pele and Patients’ Rights Principles.
