Job Description
This role provides support to the On-Course Supervisor and Bank Controller. It helps manage all betting operations on race days. Key tasks include smooth betting and banking activities, accurate cash control, staff coordination, and excellent customer service. The position supports Race Coast KwaZulu-Natal’s betting goals, operational standards, and the overall race day experience for customers and partners.
Key Responsibility Areas
Support in the On-Course Environment
- Help the On-Course Supervisor coordinate and oversee betting operations on race days.
- Monitor operator performance and assign resources to maintain good service at all booths and stations.
- Prepare and review race day reports, such as staff numbers, turnover, and hourly transactions, for analysis after events.
- Handle customer complaints, payment issues, or service problems quickly and professionally.
- Assist with the Hollywoodbets Durban July recruitment and training program, working with Human Resources on onboarding, training, and feedback.
- Ensure everyone follows Race Coast’s procedures, cash handling rules, and code of conduct.
Performance Indicators:
- Accurate and on-time race day reports.
- Fewer customer complaints or errors in transactions.
- Smooth staff deployment and performance.
Support to the On-Course Bank
- Help the Bank Controller prepare, check, and issue cash floats and boxes for race day booths.
- Keep accurate records of all cash movements, including floats, transfers, and collections.
- Make sure on-course ATMs have enough cash for customers and operators during events.
- Provide extra cash to booths as needed, with clear records.
- Ensure all booth cash and floats are returned, checked, and recorded at the end of the day.
- Reconcile and balance all incoming money, updating systems as required.
- Prepare and submit banking and finance documents to the Finance Department on time.
- Monitor bank and vault balances to keep funds safe and accounted for.
Performance Indicators:
- 100% accuracy in float and vault reconciliations.
- Timely finance reports.
- No unexplained cash differences.
Operational Compliance and Coordination
- Follow Race Coast KwaZulu-Natal’s internal controls, financial procedures, and standards.
- Help with on-course logistics, like setting up booths, signage, and betting materials.
- Communicate well with supervisors, operators, and staff to share information and complete tasks.
- Identify and report ways to improve operations.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethics in all cash and customer dealings.
Performance Indicators:
- Full compliance with audits and controls.
- Good communication within teams.
- Adoption of process improvements.
Customer and Stakeholder Service
- Offer quick and polite help to racegoers, operators, and staff on betting matters.
- Represent Race Coast KwaZulu-Natal positively and professionally.
- Work with customer service teams to improve the on-course experience through responsiveness.
Performance Indicators:
- Positive feedback from customers and staff.
- Quick responses to queries and complaints.
Experience, Competencies, and General Requirements
Experience:
- At least 2 years in retail, events, banking, or racing/betting, with cash handling and reconciliation.
- Supervisory or coordination experience in customer-facing roles is a plus.
Technical Competencies:
- Good with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong skills in numbers and reconciliations.
- Knowledge of betting systems, financial controls, or on-course operations is helpful.
Behavioral Competencies:
- High integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Team player who works well under pressure and meets deadlines.
- Good at problem-solving and decisions in fast-paced settings.
