Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner

Employer: Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport

Location: Bloemfontein, Free State

Employment Type: Full Time

Qualifications Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or equivalent (SAQA-recognized)
• Essential: SAMTRAC Certification
• Registration with EAPA-SA Professional Association

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in SHERQ management
• Proven background in Employee Health & Wellness Programmes

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement SHERQ Management systems aligned with Occupational Health & Safety Act (85/1993)
• Manage ISO certification processes including OHSAS 18001 compliance
• Conduct workplace hazard assessments and risk mitigation strategies
• Lead incident investigations and safety audits
• Develop emergency preparedness plans (evacuation protocols, fire drills)
• Maintain safety equipment inventory and inspection records
• Deliver safety awareness training across all organizational levels
