Network Engineer

Job Purpose

To provide technical skills for the optimal management and operation of all data and voice communication infrastructure in the production environment. Also, support infrastructure-facing processes to deliver ICT services through a service management system for handling IT service requests and outages logged via all channels.

Education and Experience

  • National Diploma/Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering Light Current, with 2-3 years’ experience in a Network Operation Centre or IT Operations environment, including 1-2 years at a knowledge worker level.

Alternative Qualification

  • Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 5 years’ related experience in a Network Operation Centre or IT Operations environment, including 1-2 years at a knowledge worker level.

Minimum Functional Requirements

  • 3-4 years’ practical experience in a Network Operation Centre or IT Operations environment, with 2-3 years in IP routing and switching; CCNA certification required.
  • Proficient in: Routers, Wi-Fi Access Points, Switches; LAN Cabling, Voice Gateways, Protocols, Network Management Systems.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification.

  • Participate in daily incident management activities.
  • Support problem management for root cause analysis.
  • Perform network troubleshooting to resolve technical issues.
  • Conduct advanced network monitoring.
  • Join change management interventions when needed.
