uPhongolo Local Municipality
The uPhongolo Local Municipality is a Category B municipality in the north of the Zululand District, KwaZulu-Natal. It is next to the Swaziland border and the Mpumalanga Province border. It is one of five municipalities in the district. The main access is via the N2 from Gauteng in the north-west and Durban in the south.
Meter Reader

Key Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 certificate.
- Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in meter reading or revenue services.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Key Competency Skills:
- Communication skills.
- Attention to detail, integrity, and honesty.
Key Performance Areas:
- Conduct regular and scheduled meter readings for electricity.
- Capture accurate meter readings manually or electronically according to municipal procedures.
- Identify and record faulty, inaccessible, tampered, or illegal connections.
- Ensure meters are read within prescribed billing cycles.
- Verify meter numbers, customer details, and meter locations.
- Submit completed meter reading sheets or electronic data on time.
- Report discrepancies, irregular consumption patterns, and anomalies to the supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of consumer information.
- Communicate professionally with consumers about meter readings when needed.
- Respond to basic customer queries and refer complaints to the revenue collection office.
