Key Outputs

  • Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance and repairs as required by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems in machine systems efficiently, and repair earthmoving equipment at customer sites.
  • Prepare accurate reports for customers, including failure analysis, machine condition, service details, Machine Inspection Reports (MIRs), and Technical Analysis reports (TAs).
  • Maintain a professional image while representing Barloworld Equipment.
  • Work at specific customer sites as needed (Man on Hire).
  • Follow safe work practices when handling machines.
  • Uphold and control Contamination Control Standards.
  • Manage your own administration tasks, such as labour booking, service reports, part returns, and expenses.
  • Ensure your work meets quality and productivity standards consistently (ISO standards).

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies

  • Qualified in a relevant trade, such as Diesel Mechanic or Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic (NQF 3).
  • At least 7 years of post-qualification experience on earthmoving machines (minimum 5 years with Caterpillar).
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills specific to Caterpillar machines (Caterpillar Certification is an advantage).
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to write technical reports.
  • Good computer skills, including SIS, STW & ET, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Solid knowledge of Caterpillar products.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of business and finance.
  • Good health to meet company and customer site requirements.
  • Own basic tools (BWE standard kit).
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B).
  • Willing to travel daily.
  • Ready to work away from home on short notice and for undefined periods.
  • Understanding of OEM and supplier warranty systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Able to work at various customer sites on an ad hoc basis.
