Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant BEng or BSc (Eng) engineering degree and eligibility for registration as Pr Eng. For electrical or mechanical disciplines, depending on installation size, a GCC or Pr Cert Eng may be required. Computer literacy in MS Office. Valid Code C1 (Code 10) driver’s license. Experience in project management in a municipal or ESKOM environment. At least 8 years of relevant experience post registration.

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of relevant municipal legislation and the challenges in delivering municipal services.
  • Manages and assigns resources for design projects.
  • Conducts lifecycle analysis to set design requirements. Prioritizes designs based on budget and infrastructure asset management.
  • Checks designs against demand and system capacity. Approves final designs.
  • Manages project requirements from funders. Ensures stakeholder communication. Prioritizes resources to meet deadlines. Finalizes project concepts and feasibility studies. Manages and integrates processes within project scope, time, cost, and quality. Determines maintenance requirements based on asset management for new projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, leads, directs, and monitors key performance areas in the Electricity Section. This includes managing the quality of electricity design, installations, modifications, and repairs. Oversees network and primary systems planning, electrical construction and maintenance, and project engineering to ensure cost-effective integrated electrical solutions.
  • Stays updated on new trends and advances in electricity control systems that affect electrical design, calculations, and specifications.
  • Evaluates key performance indicators against business and strategic plans. Presents frameworks for current and future interventions to achieve cost-effective electrical maintenance and project solutions for inclusion in departmental plans.
  • Conducts performance appraisals, reviews goals, and sets new objectives. Implements HR policies to handle workplace issues and improve productivity. Analyzes staff data on attendance, overtime, and accidents to propose improvements.
  • Prepares capital and operating estimates for the section and controls expenditure within budget. Analyzes trends and requirements to determine funding. Monitors finances to comply with regulations, audits, and procedures. Communicates with the financial section and NERSA on audit findings and implements corrective actions.
