Purpose of the Job

A Maintenance Assistant supports the maintenance team by providing effective equipment maintenance assistance and reliability. This role involves adhering to procedures and codes to increase stability and maintain sustainability of equipment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of rotating equipment, including monitoring oil temperature and vibration levels.
  • Support maintenance activities, such as lubrication, filter changes, and basic servicing of pumps, compressors, and turbines.
  • Assist with housekeeping and general maintenance tasks within the plant or workshop as required.
  • Ensure that inspection and maintenance records are accurately documented and maintained.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Apply safety procedures, work instructions, and emergency preparedness.
  • Use hand tools like drills, screwdrivers, grinders, paint brushes, and portable tools safely.
  • Clean up the site after tasks.
  • Use two-way radios for communication during rigging tasks.

  • Participate in root cause analyses and provide feedback to the teams.
  • Carry out work according to the planning schedule.
  • Join daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments.
  • Provide regular feedback to the supervisor on work progress.
  • Apply and adhere to safety standards to support a safe environment.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and follow waste disposal procedures.
  • Identify faults using appropriate methods to ensure equipment availability.

  • Attend training courses and seminars as per the training matrix to improve skills and competency.
  • Identify personal training and development needs and include them in your personal development plan with supervisor approval.
  • Support the business goals and vision by meeting deadlines.

Customer and Relationship Results

  • Perform plant inspections and repairs as required to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Provide feedback to customers on work progress.
  • Conduct inspections to maintain and improve plant sustainability.

Innovation and Improvement Results

  • Ensure correct history feedback is captured to improve renewals, upgrades, and replacement of critical spares.
  • Attend and participate in toolbox talks to enhance plant safety.
  • Attend and contribute to post-defect analyses and root cause analyses to improve plant safety and stability.
  • Spot continuous improvement opportunities in your work area.

Formal Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

  • 0 – 2 years of relevant working experience.
  • Basic technical knowledge of rotating equipment inspection, such as oil temperature and vibration analysis.
  • Familiarity with pumps, compressors, and turbines.
  • Prior experience in maintenance or a related field is preferred but not required.
