Librarian

Salary: Task Grade 12 of category 1 Municipality

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Matric certificate
  • B Degree in Library and Information Science (with LIS as a major)
  • Or, B Degree with a Post Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science (prerequisite subjects: Descriptive Cataloguing and Classification)
  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • 3 years of experience, including 2 years in a professional library position

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to work on Saturdays
  • Ability to work according to a roster or as needed
  • Full academic record, including all subjects passed, must be submitted with the application

Duties

  • Manage the library and its staff
  • Assist the Senior Librarian with financial control
  • Build a balanced collection of books
  • Handle accessioning, classification, and cataloguing
  • Compile statistics as required
  • Promote the library, including holiday and educational programs
  • Perform routine library and administrative tasks
  • Provide information retrieval and guide library users
  • Offer clerical support for employee probation reports
