Job Purpose
To enforce the collection of debt cases, including escalated debts and outstanding returns, to ensure compliance with various tax types.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification and Experience Required
- National Diploma / Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in Taxation/Accounting and 2-3 years in Debt Management/Collections in various tax environments, including 1-2 years at a knowledge worker level.
Alternative Qualification
- Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 5 years in Debt Management/Collections in various tax environments, including 1-2 years at a knowledge worker level.
Minimum Functional Requirements
- Knowledge of tax legislation, legal aspects of collections (such as sequestrations and liquidations), in-depth analysis of financial statements (including ratio analysis and interpretation), accounting, negotiation, risk management, and the Companies Act.

- Report suspicious activities and follow up with stakeholders.
- Prepare reports for Large Assessments Committees/National Appeals Committees.
- Carry out legal enforcement actions under the Tax Administration Act and Companies Act for selected tax types.
- Profile, analyze, prepare, and present submissions for Suspension of Payment/Write-Off to the Debt Committee and record outcomes.
- Analyze, negotiate, prepare, and present deferral or compromise requests to the Debt Committee and inform taxpayers of results.
- Monitor payments under agreements, update records, and close cases upon full payment.
- Verify and evaluate movable and immovable assets.
- Review business rescue plans and present cases to committees for approval or referral.
- Ensure compliance with legislation during business rescue and collect payments.
- Gather documents for liquidation/sequestration applications, code cases, and refer as needed.
- Attend internal/external meetings, creditors’ meetings, court proceedings, and tax enquiries.
- Reduce debt through approved adjustments and write-offs.
- Analyze liquidation/sequestration plans, business rescues, trusts, and other liable parties, and recommend further actions.
