Learner Fire Fighter : West (Veldrif) Jobs

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric);
• Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT);
• Medical Test NFPA 1582.

Experience: Must be between 18 and 35 years old.

Requirements

• Code C1 driver’s license;
• Good skills in at least two official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, or isiXhosa – speak, read, and write);
• Pass a physical test from the department when joining and every year after;
• Pass a medical test before starting and as a baseline;
• No mental fears of closed spaces (claustrophobia), heights (acrophobia), depths (bathophobia), water (aquaphobia), blood (hemophobia), darkness (achluophobia), being alone (autophobia), or dead bodies (necrophobia);
• Physically and mentally fit;
• Ready to work shifts and overtime when needed;
• Able to work at any fire station or facility in the area, as decided by the Chief Fire Officer;
• No criminal record.

Job Purpose

Under supervision, you will handle various tasks like fighting fires, emergency rescues, basic medical care, fire prevention, training, operating and maintaining fire equipment, and keeping fire stations in good condition. This helps protect lives and property in line with the Fire Brigade Services Act (Act 99 of 1987).

Key Performance Areas

• After training and meeting basic qualifications, assist with firefighting and emergencies under guidance to reduce risks to lives and property in the community.
• Prepare for emergencies and safety duties with senior support to educate the public, maintain high safety standards, and create a safer environment for everyone.
• Ensure equipment and vehicles are ready and safe under supervision for efficient emergency responses and a clean, safe workplace.
• Handle basic admin tasks with guidance to keep records up to date.
• Take part in the municipality’s Performance Management and Development System.
