Key Requirements and Skills
- Good skills in using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Able to work in a biohazardous environment, handle heavy tasks, and work under pressure.
- Basic knowledge of calculations for preparing chemical solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work alone or in a team.
- Must be ethical, honest, and accountable.
- Understand basic lab equipment and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance.
- Follow good laboratory practices; self-motivated with good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Manage multiple tasks, adapt to changes in a fast-paced setting.
- Attention to detail in record keeping and data entry (numbers and text).
- Skilled in using office equipment.
- Clear and discreet communication in person and writing.
- Experience in a biomedical laboratory.
- Experience with lab equipment like centrifuges, vortexes, balances, pipettes, and pipetting.
- Experience handling human biological samples, hazardous chemicals, waste, and gases.
- Senior Certificate (or equivalent).
- Valid driver’s license (Code B/EB).
Main Responsibilities
- Provide effective laboratory upkeep and support.
- Offer efficient testing support.
- Handle and manage specimens efficiently.
- Provide support for inventory, facilities, and administration.
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary: R 193 359 – R 227 766, plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s contribution to pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
