Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Research Scientist to independently conduct research projects focused on nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulic analysis and reactor safety analysis, particularly in support of research reactor safety assessments. This role emphasizes a balance between personal development and mentoring others while making significant contributions to Necsa’s business processes and safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) standards.

In the Reactor Research and Development (RRT/RD) environment, the candidate will primarily support safety analysis for the SAFARI-1 reactor. A deep understanding of physical models, related computer code systems, and accepted safety standards in nuclear analysis is essential. The role involves collaborating with clients to define their analysis needs, conducting the required analyses, and producing comprehensive documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Knowledge Dissemination

  • Document research findings through progress reports, technical reports, and publications.
  • Present research results at internal and national conferences and workshops.
  • Contribute as a primary author to peer-reviewed publications.

Human Capital Development

  • Provide training and supervision to colleagues and postgraduate students.
  • Lead or participate in research teams and community outreach initiatives.

Contribution to Necsa’s Business Processes

  • Execute independent research tasks and develop processes of strategic value.
  • Prepare client reports and coordinate technical research projects.
  • Foster partnerships with industry and scientific bodies.

Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ)

  • Participate in business process management and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to enhance safety, quality, and security standards.

Financial Management

  • Support project budgeting and strive to secure research grants and funding.
  • Manage project costs effectively.

Key Knowledge & Skills

  • Expertise in nuclear reactor safety analysis and thermal-hydraulic analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Option 1: MSc/MEng/MTech in Science or Engineering with 3-4 years of research experience in nuclear reactor safety or thermal-hydraulic analysis.
  • Option 2: PhD in Science or Engineering with 0-2 years of research experience in the relevant fields.
