The City of Pretoria in Gauteng is looking for a qualified and experienced Engineering Technologist to join its team full-time. The successful candidate will provide essential technical services, manage construction contracts, and support engineering projects with a focus on safety, quality, and innovation.


Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this role, candidates must have the following:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • A Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) degree in Engineering or a relevant equivalent qualification.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification experience as an Engineering Technologist.
  • Registration:
    • Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technologist.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • A valid, unexpired driver’s license.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of construction contracts, programme and project management, and technical design and analysis.
    • Proficiency in research and development, computer-aided engineering applications, and understanding of legal compliance.
    • Excellent technical report writing and networking skills.
    • Ability to exercise professional judgment and solve complex problems effectively.
    • Leadership skills, creativity, decision-making ability, and self-management.
    • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), with a focus on customer service.
    • Competence in planning, organizing, and managing people.
    • Willingness to travel long distances and work away from home when required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Engineering Technologist will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:

  1. Technological Advisory Services:
    • Provide expert technological advice and support procurement administration for the appointment of professional service providers (PSPs).
  2. Technical Contract Administration:
    • Oversee contract administration services in collaboration with other technologists and engineers.
    • Ensure that all contract work adheres to safety regulations and statutory requirements.
  3. Quality Assurance and Design Evaluation:
    • Evaluate and update existing technical manuals, standard drawings, and contract guidelines.
    • Incorporate new knowledge and technological advancements into contract administration practices.
    • Review and ensure quality assurance of technical designs and tender documents, making necessary recommendations for approval by relevant authorities.
  4. Contract and Database Management:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive contracts database to streamline project management.
    • Assist in coordinating the preparation and organization of tender documents in line with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Best Practice Guidelines.
