Internship: Food Value Chain

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12/NQF Level 4 certificate
  • Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, or related field
  • Must reside within Johannesburg city limits

Role Purpose:

Support smallholder farmers and food processors in transitioning from basic farming to value-added production. Focus on quality standards, market access, and sustainable practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate training programs for food safety (HACCP) and quality standards (SABS)
  • Help farmers develop value-added products from raw agricultural materials
  • Organize regional agricultural market days to connect producers with buyers
  • Assist in creating market-led production plans for farmers
  • Collaborate with local partners to improve supply chain efficiency

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Passionate about agricultural development
  • Strong communication skills for working with rural communities
  • Basic understanding of food processing and quality control
