About the Job
The CSIR offers internship opportunities in the Finance portfolio. These internships aim to provide graduates with practical work experience through performing accounting and administrative tasks. The positions are based in Pretoria.
Key Responsibilities
- Process financial transactions under guidance to ensure accurate recording in line with policies, processes, guidelines, and legislation.
- Perform financial account reconciliations to spot discrepancies and ensure transactions are recorded in the correct period.
- Prepare and attach supporting documents for approvals before processing asset additions and journals for proper allocation.
- Follow up on queries from divisions, clusters, portfolios, or custodians, and escalate to supervisors or accountants when needed.
- Maintain records of all financial documents, such as journals, additions, disposals, transfers, custodian consents, reconciliations, and verification proofs for audits.
- Follow month-end and year-end processes to help meet deadlines and close financial transactions.
- Conduct physical verification of assets, including scanning bar codes and QR codes at all CSIR locations.
- Make follow-up visits to departments to verify, gather, and compare information.
- Create a clear audit trail for all office documents and communications to support fixed asset records.
- Manage documents quarterly to keep accounting trails ready for audits.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- A three-year diploma or degree in accounting or finance.
- Good understanding of basic accounting principles and ability to apply them.
- Basic knowledge of VAT principles, Microsoft Office Suite, and Outlook.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage stress.
- Strong office administrative and record-keeping skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong time management and planning skills.
- Punctuality, adaptability, effective communication, and listening skills.
