Internal Auditor

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Accounting/Internal Auditing or related field (NQF level 6).
  • Progress toward Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
  • 3–4 years of experience in auditing or accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role in performance auditing.
  • Knowledge of human resources, finance, and project management.
  • Knowledge of information management systems, internal controls, networks, and the internet.
  • Understanding of Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (you will need to visit council sites and attend meetings on short notice).

Primary Function:
Carry out internal audit tasks in a specific area by reviewing management’s actions to ensure they are effective, provide value for money, and are efficient. Assess the performance of the municipality’s programs, projects, and departments for efficiency, effectiveness, economy, and compliance with laws, best practices, and other standards. Help create recommendations for improvement and prepare parts of final reports for municipal oversight committees.
