Requirements:
- Three-year tertiary qualification in Labour Relations, B-Tech Degree in Labour Relations, LLB, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Health, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Civil & Construction Engineering.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Two years of functional experience in Inspection and Enforcement Services (BCEA)/OHS.
- Knowledge of: Departmental policies and procedures, Skills Development Act, Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Skills Development Levies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA, SABS Codes, Unemployment Insurance Act, UI Contributions Act, Employment Equity Act, and Immigration Act.
Duties:
- Plan and conduct independent substantive inspections to ensure compliance with labour laws, including the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Labour Relations Act (LRA), Employment Equity Act (EEA), Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA), Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and UI Contributions Act (UCT).
- Plan and carry out independent investigations on reported cases of labour law violations, enforce as needed, prepare for court appearances, and serve as a state witness.
- Plan and conduct regular proactive (blitz) inspections to monitor compliance with labour laws, and compile reports from these inspections.
- Plan and lead independent advocacy campaigns on labour laws, analyze their impact, report on them, and compile statistical reports on regional and assigned cases.
