Solid Waste Services Officer

About Cape Agulhas Municipality

The Municipality covers about 2,411 km² and includes the towns of Bredasdorp and Napier, coastal towns like Arniston, Struisbaai, L’Agulhas, and Suiderstrand, as well as rural areas including Protem, Klipdale, and the private town of Elim. The main administrative office is in Bredasdorp.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or National Certificate
  • Further Education and Training Certificate in Environmental Practice (NQF 4) or Environmental Management (NQF 5)
  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Valid Code B Driver’s License

Key Functions:

  • Ensure compliance with permit conditions at all waste facilities
  • Communicate with and monitor contractors at waste sites
  • Complete and sign worksheets for invoice submissions
  • Prepare monitoring reports on service providers and equipment rentals
  • Supervise and manage EPWP cleanup projects in towns and informal areas
  • Report incidents to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning
  • Analyze waste data from landfill sites using the waste calculator
  • Report illegal dumping to the Waste Management Office
  • Implement strategies and awareness programs against illegal dumping
  • Conduct internal audits at landfill sites and drop-off facilities
  • Compile action plans for waste facilities as required by the Department of Environmental Affairs
  • Lead workshops for waste entrepreneurs and community education on waste management
  • Implement waste picker projects
  • Monitor and plan waste transportation from facilities to regional landfills
  • Handle all operational duties at waste facilities
  • Ensure maintenance issues at waste facilities are addressed promptly
