Job Overview: Information Security Officer

The Information Security Officer is responsible for managing and safeguarding eThekwini Municipality’s IT security systems. This role involves the installation, configuration, monitoring, and ongoing administration of security systems to ensure the municipality’s data and IT infrastructure remain secure. Reporting to the Manager of IT Security, the Information Security Officer also plays a proactive role in identifying vulnerabilities, analyzing system logs, and recommending improvements to strengthen the municipality’s security posture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Security System Management: Operate, maintain, and control server and application security systems and infrastructure.
  • Implementation and Support: Implement IT security systems and provide fault management support for assigned systems.
  • System Monitoring: Continuously monitor IT systems to detect and respond to potential security issues.
  • Proactive Security Measures: Analyze system logs to anticipate and mitigate security threats, ensuring the municipality stays ahead of risks.
  • Security Posture Assessment: Evaluate IT systems, identify security weaknesses, and provide recommendations for improvements to enhance the security infrastructure.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualification: Diploma (NQF Level 6) in ICT-related field, along with an Information Security certificate.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in IT security.
  • Driver’s License: A valid motor vehicle driving license is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Degree (NQF Level 7) in ICT-related field is preferred, along with an Information Security certificate.
  • Experience: 4 years of relevant experience in IT security.
