Position: Independent Correctional Centre Visitor
Location: Mossel Bay Youth Correctional Centre (Western Cape)
About Us:
The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is an independent oversight body monitoring correctional operations and protecting the rights of incarcerated persons. We report directly to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee and Ministry of Correctional Services.
Position Details:
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Minimum Education: Grade 12/Matric Certificate
- Experience Level: Open to candidates meeting requirements
- Department: Administration/Correctional Oversight
Key Requirements:
- Valid Grade 12/Senior Certificate
- Computer literacy with strong attention to detail
- Current recommendation letter (≤6 months old) from community organization
- Understanding of Batho Pele principles and public service commitment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Core Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily facility inspections and engage inmates/correctional staff
- Monitor and document incarceration conditions
- Investigate and report on critical incidents including use of force, deaths, and restraints
- Manage inmate complaint resolution processes
- Support JICS officials during formal inspections
- Maintain detailed records and produce comprehensive reports
