About JICS:
The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) serves as an independent oversight body monitoring correctional facility operations and protecting the rights of incarcerated individuals. We report directly to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee and Minister of Correctional Services.
Position Summary:
Job Level: Level 5
Work Schedule: Part-time (3/8th contract)
Location: King William’s Town, Eastern Cape
Key Requirements:
- Matric/Grade 12 certificate
- Computer literacy with attention to detail
- Valid nomination from recognized community organization (issued within last 6 months)
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Knowledge of Batho Pele principles
- Valid driver’s license (advantageous)
Core Responsibilities:
- Conduct facility inspections and urgent situation assessments
- Manage inmate consultations and complaint resolution
- Maintain digital records of all reported incidents
- Prepare detailed monthly operational reports
- Analyze complaint trends and patterns
- Coordinate with correctional staff on case resolutions
