About SARS:
SARS is South Africa’s tax administration authority responsible for national tax collection, customs services, and enforcing compliance with fiscal legislation.
Position Purpose:
Conduct integrated civil/criminal investigations into tax/customs non-compliance with focus on smuggling and illicit trade activities.
Requirements:
- National Diploma/Advanced Certificate in Investigations/Policing + 3-4 years relevant experience
- OR Matric Certificate + 6 years investigative experience
- Proven track record in law enforcement, auditing, or tax compliance roles
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute complex investigations into customs/tax violations
- Coordinate with SAPS/NPA on criminal prosecutions
- Conduct border operations and illicit goods interception
- Prepare court-ready evidence and testify in legal proceedings
- Implement penalties and license revocation for non-compliant entities
- Analyze financial data for forensic auditing purposes
