Job Summary

This learnership offers hands‑on experience in horticulture, supporting the operation and maintenance of horticultural sites and plant production areas. You will learn about plant growth, soil preparation, irrigation, and basic horticultural practices while attending classroom sessions and completing assignments.

Minimum Requirements

  • Not currently employed, enrolled in any institution, or registered in another learnership.
  • No completed post‑matric qualification. Applicants with a post‑matric qualification will not be considered.
  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics/Math Literacy and Life Science, each at least Level 3.
  • Submission of a SAQA/NLRD verification report (obtainable from the SAQA website).
  • South African citizen with a valid SA ID.
  • Age between 18 and 35 years.

Primary Duties

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of horticultural sites and plant production areas.
  • Monitor plant growth and health conditions.
  • Perform basic soil preparation and planting activities.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and irrigation systems.
  • Participate in plant propagation, watering, and fertilizing processes.
  • Attend classes and engage in discussions and activities.
  • Complete assignments, projects, and practical logbooks.
  • Write assessments to evaluate knowledge and understanding.

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of Rand Water’s mandate and its role in the water sector.

Communication skills (verbal and written).

Attitude

Self‑motivated and results‑driven.
