Job Purpose

Grading and Remuneration Advisor

  • Conduct research and implement policies on job evaluation and remuneration for eThekwini Municipality. Align procedures, controls, and applications to support human capital development and meet departmental goals. Provide guidance on policies and specialist advice.

Senior Grading and Remuneration Advisor

  • Plan, research, and implement policies on job evaluation and remuneration. Develop and maintain procedures, controls, and applications. Provide advice and guidance to support human capital development and achieve departmental objectives.

Key Responsibility Areas

Grading and Remuneration Advisor

  • Help plan and manage the job evaluation and remuneration function for the municipality.
  • Offer expert advice on remuneration to line management and the Human Capital Directorate, covering policy interpretation, market trends, job evaluation, skills shortages, and legal requirements for recruitment.
  • Lead projects on job evaluation and remuneration, such as organizational reviews, job description rollouts, and portal redesigns, considering impacts on finance, HR, and directorate needs.
  • Represent the municipality at arbitrations and grievance hearings related to job evaluation and remuneration, including placement and non-appointment issues.
  • Provide expert compensation advice and contribute to communication strategies to inform management, staff, and labor about compensation plans.
  • Design a data system for all jobs, aligning specifications and key performance areas to enable efficient and cost-effective job advertising.
  • Manage staff development and performance.

Senior Grading and Remuneration Advisor

  • Provide specialist remuneration advice to line management, the Human Capital Directorate, and the Remuneration Committee on policies and market trends for attracting and retaining talent.
  • Manage moderately complex projects on job evaluation and remuneration, such as national benchmarking, variable pay reviews, and pay structure development.
  • Review annual salary adjustments and create a remuneration handbook for the payroll team.
  • Identify remuneration risks and consult with internal and external legal experts for solutions.
  • Represent the municipality at grievance and arbitration hearings on compensation matters.
  • Advise on aligning job requirements for recruitment to comply with statutory and professional standards.
  • Develop and review policies in line with collective agreements.
  • Participate in selecting suitable remuneration surveys.
  • Manage staff development and performance.

Grading and Remuneration Advisor

  • Diploma (NQF level 6) in Human Resources Management or equivalent.
  • Certified as a Job Evaluator.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Computer literacy.

Senior Grading and Remuneration Advisor

  • Diploma (NQF level 6) in Human Resources Management or equivalent.
  • Certified as a Job Evaluator.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Computer literacy.

Preferred Requirements
