The Government Printing Works is inviting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Mechanized Bookbinding Printing Trade Operator. This role is vital in ensuring that printing and binding operations meet production standards while maintaining security protocols. Successful applicants will work in a secure, high-quality environment using specialized equipment to handle bookbinding and packaging tasks.
Job Requirements
To qualify for the role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum educational requirement: Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
- Completion of an apprenticeship and possession of a Trade Test Certificate in Mechanized Bookbinding Printing Trade.
- Basic computer literacy is essential.
- Knowledge of CMC Packaging equipment is an advantage.
- Experience operating various bookbinding equipment, such as Saddle-Stitcher, Folding, Packaging machines, and quality assurance/control.
- Willingness to work shifts as required by the production schedule.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Operating Packaging and Bookbinding finishing equipment, including CMC Packaging machines, Guillotine, Shrink Wrap, Foiling, and other relevant tools.
- Ensuring daily production targets are met according to the established schedule and standards.
- Safely processing security materials in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Implementing quality assurance and control measures to ensure all security production materials meet high standards.
- Adhering to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations and following Government Printing Works policies.

- Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, which can be downloaded from the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) website at www.dpsa.gov.za-vacancies. The old Z83 form is no longer valid.
- The Z83 form must be fully completed, with page 2 signed, and include the reference number. Incomplete or unsigned applications will not be considered.
- Along with the Z83 form, applicants must submit a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV). Certified copies of ID, Senior Certificate, and the highest qualification will only be required from shortlisted candidates.
- Candidates holding foreign qualifications must provide evaluated results from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
