The Dis-Chem Palm Court store in Roodepoort requires a Frontshop Assistant to maintain high merchandising standards and support customer service at the point of sale, following Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- 0 – 6 months retail work experience
Advantageous:
- 1 year work experience within retail
Key Responsibilities:
- Restock merchandise appropriately to ensure maximum sales.
- Store and pack delivered stock or stock from the storeroom in the correct space immediately.
- Maintain shelf stock to avoid sell-by dates and apply the FIFO (first in, first out) principle.
- Ensure full ranges of products are always on the shelves.
- Rotate stock regularly and follow Dis-Chem’s stock control procedures.
- Keep the storeroom organized, neat, and tidy.
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock, and expired stock to management.
- Rotate stock on a first-in, first-out basis continuously.
- Assist with cycle counts and general stocktaking.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking stock and take them to the designated area for security check.
- Identify and report damaged and expired stock to management immediately.
- Uphold Dis-Chem’s merchandising policy and procedure standards.
- Follow Dis-Chem’s operating standards, store layout, and merchandising layouts.
- Present front shop shelves and products neatly and visibly at all times.
- Ensure labels and pricing are correct at all times.
- Report all price discrepancies to management.
- Stay aware of new products and keep product knowledge up to date.
- Manage restocking of merchandise and supplies to ensure maximum sales.
- Build, face up, stock, and maintain merchandising displays according to Dis-Chem procedures.
- Maintain the daily physical upkeep of the store and merchandise displays, and take responsibility for designated stock in the storeroom and on the shop floor.
- Assist with loading and off-loading stock when needed.
- Clearly mark items without barcodes.
- Be available to assist with back shopping when needed.
- Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
- Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance and advice to all customers.
- Follow up on all out-of-stock queries from customers.
- Resolve all customer stock queries within a reasonable time.
- Wear the correct uniform and name badge at all times.
- Assist with training new and current team members.
- Report bad or suspicious behavior from staff and customers to management.
- Maintain housekeeping according to Dis-Chem standards. Keep your workstation clean and tidy.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s policies and standard operating procedures.
- Follow health and safety rules and regulations.
- Comply with Dis-Chem’s uniform and personal appearance policy.
Essential Competencies:
- Trustworthy and honest. Strong customer service skills.
- Good interpersonal relations, awareness, thoroughness, organization, sensitivity, identification with management, cooperation, and customer orientation.
- Provide constant feedback to store manager and field service advisors.
- Effective interaction with management and customers.

- English proficiency: read, write, speak, and understand. Strong writing skills, oral communication, listening, and document use.
Advantageous Competencies:
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry. Experience working with planograms and category knowledge.
- Second additional language.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Driver’s license or reliable transport.
- South African citizen or valid work permit.
