Requirements

  • Appropriate experience in food services, especially in a hospital setting.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Knowledge of preparing normal and therapeutic diets in a food service unit.
  • Understanding of HACCP and safety principles.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting heavy objects and standing for long periods.
  • No payment is required to apply for this position. Candidates may need to complete a practical exercise.

Duties

  • Pre-prepare, cook, plate, distribute, and serve meals and beverages to patients according to the PGWC Food Service Policy. Follow standardized recipes and menus.
  • Assist with receiving and storing provisions in the food service unit.
  • Clean and maintain the kitchen area, equipment, and follow health and safety regulations.
  • Communicate with team members and staff. Provide feedback on issues and suggestions to the Food Service Supervisor/Manager. Support the supervisor as needed.
  • Wear the required uniform and follow hospital policies.
  • Be willing to work shifts, including public holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Salary and Benefits

R 138 486 per annum, plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
