Transnet, South Africa’s largest and most critical freight logistics company, is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Executive Manager: Category Management – ICT, Corporate Services and Facilities. This position is based in Johannesburg, Gauteng, and offers a full-time opportunity for a highly skilled candidate to lead strategic procurement and category management initiatives.

Position Purpose

As the Executive Manager, you will be responsible for building strong partnerships with operating divisions to become a preferred partner for strategic sourcing. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing category strategies for ICT, Corporate Services, and Facilities.
  • Setting up KPIs to support the implementation of a new operating model.
  • Leading change management and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful implementation of category strategies.
  • Analyzing internal demand and external market dynamics to support strategic decision-making.

Role Overview

  • Oversee the creation of category teams for indirect and fuel categories.
  • Define and implement strategic plans for indirect and fuel categories.
  • Embed Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principles in the procurement cycle.
  • Develop reporting strategies and dashboards to monitor spend and optimize value.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and manage corporate risk related to procurement.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with business expectations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience: 10-12 years of relevant experience, with 5-7 years in senior management roles.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (NQF7). An MBA or postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Hands-on experience in procurement and category management.
    • Knowledge of PFMA, PPPFA, and public sector frameworks.
    • Strong understanding of TCO concepts and category management techniques.
    • Experience with change management and excellent communication skills.
