Rand Water, Africa’s largest water utility, is offering 4 temporary positions for Electrical Technicians on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This vital role supports the organization’s operations by ensuring that electrical systems at water treatment facilities and pump stations are properly maintained and functional.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants for this role should meet the following qualifications:

  • Grade 12 and S4 or N6 in Electrical (H/C) Engineering.
  • National Diploma in Electrical (H/C) Engineering is an added advantage.
  • Electrician trade test certificate.
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience in a similar environment.
  • Code 10 driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and safe working procedures.

Primary Duties:

The selected Electrical Technicians will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Electrical Equipment Inspections: Inspect various electrical components such as cables, motors, transformers, lights, motor control circuits (MCCs), generators, and low and medium distribution boxes (DBs).
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance and fault-finding on electrical equipment, including standby generators.
  • Assisting with Breakdowns: Provide support during breakdowns and handle ad-hoc electrical repair work.
  • Installation and Commissioning: Install, commission, and monitor the performance of electrical equipment.
  • Maintenance Reports: Compile detailed reports on maintenance activities.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Assist in ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Maintenance Planning: Support the planning and scheduling of maintenance work.

Knowledge Requirements:

Candidates should possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • In-depth understanding of electrical maintenance practices.
  • Safety knowledge in compliance with OHSA and related regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of water and sanitation infrastructure, including pipeline networks, pump stations, and treatment works.
  • Familiarity with various electrical equipment such as cables, lighting systems, VSDs, soft starters, flow sensors, PLCs, circuit breakers, motors, and motor pumps.
  • Knowledge of welding is a plus.
