Electrical Technician

Duties:

  • Provide technical support in the electrical engineering services directorate, focusing on protection, metering, and small-scale embedded generation (SSEG) systems.
  • Design and cost engineering projects for the department.
  • Assist with implementing, inspecting, and approving small-scale embedded generation (SSEG) installations.
  • Ensure construction and maintenance projects meet cost, quality, and time requirements.
  • Help with medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) switching operations, following safety procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
  • Make sure all work follows relevant laws, codes of practice, and municipal policies.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure they comply with municipal standards and SANS regulations.
  • Prioritize and assess emergency and call-out situations to decide on immediate repairs or scheduled work.

Requirements:

  • Relevant National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Code B Driver’s Licence.
  • Good communication skills in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Understanding of protocol and business ethics.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Able to handle conflict.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Good time management.
  • Solid technical skills in electrical maintenance.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Must be able to work on live systems (high voltage).
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant experience.
