Key Performance Areas

  • Transport learners in special schools to and from school by following designated routes and schedules. Follow all traffic laws.
  • Communicate effectively with learners, parents, and school staff.
  • Assist learners with safe loading and offloading. Inform school personnel and parents of any incidents to maintain proper procedures.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
  • Supervise learners during transit to ensure safety and follow departmental policies.
  • Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle. Report any needed mechanical repairs.
  • Perform periodical safety drills as required by law and complete necessary reports when requested.
  • Handle deliveries and collections.
  • Collect and deliver documents, correspondence, mail, packages, and other items from places such as the post office, other departments, and external stakeholders.
  • Purchase, load, and transport equipment, groceries, and other items for the institution. Provide health support.
  • Take learners to clinics or hospitals when needed.
  • Plan and follow the most efficient routes using maps or GPS to ensure timely arrivals and avoid traffic delays.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is fuelled, clean, and well-maintained. Report any issues and arrange for necessary repairs.
  • Keep complete records and logbooks for trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and goods handled.
  • Provide general support, such as office clerical work including filing, making photocopies, running errands, and assisting with loading and unloading items.
  • Interact with clients and customers in a professional and courteous manner. Collect payments or obtain signatures for deliveries if required.

Prerequisites

  • Grade 12
  • Valid Code 10 driver’s licence with PDP
  • Three years of bus driving experience will be an added advantage
  • A driver’s competency test will be conducted before appointment
