Key Performance Areas

• Transport learners in special schools to and from school by following designated routes and schedules. Follow traffic laws.
• Communicate with learners, parents, and school staff.
• Assist learners with safe loading and offloading. Inform school personnel and parents of incidents to follow proper procedures.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Supervise learners during transit to maintain safety and follow departmental policies.
• Conduct safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle daily. Report needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
• Perform periodical safety drills as required by law and complete necessary reports upon request.
• Handle delivery and collections.
• Collect and deliver documents, correspondence, mail, packages, and other items from places such as the post office, other departments, and external stakeholders.
• Purchase, load, buy, and load equipment and groceries for the institution. Provide health support.
• Take learners to clinics or hospitals. Plan routes.
• Plan and follow the most efficient routes using maps or GPS to ensure timely delivery and avoid traffic delays.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Ensure the vehicle is fuelled, clean, and well maintained. Report any issues and arrange for necessary repairs.
• Keep records. Complete and maintain all required records and logbooks regarding trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and goods handled.
• Provide general support. Assist with general office and clerical work such as filing, making photocopies, running errands, and assisting with loading and unloading items.
• Offer customer service. Interact with clients and customers in a professional and courteous manner. Potentially collect payments and obtain signatures for deliveries.

Prerequisites

• Grade 12. Valid Code 10 driver’s licence with PDP. Three years of bus driving experience will be an added advantage. A driver’s competency test will be conducted before appointment.
