Job Description
Key Performance Areas
1. Pre-Trip Procedures
- Check vehicles using the Vehicle Inspection Checklist and report to the Dispatch Controller.
- Report any issues to the Dispatch Controller (or relevant supervisor in certain zones) before leaving.
- Receive and sign for Trip Instruction Sheets.
- Wear name tags at all times.
- Collect products for transport with the Delivery Sheet, handle blood products carefully, and secure them.
- Leave a copy of the delivery with the Dispatch Controller (or supervisor in zones).
- Complete the Trip Sheet, including odometer readings and log book entries.
- Ensure enough fuel for the trip; use the fuel card if needed.
- Verify odometer reading when refueling.
2. Transportation of Goods
- Complete the Trip Sheet.
- Follow delivery timelines and instructions; report any changes to the Dispatch Controller.
- Drive according to SANBS rules and the National Road Traffic Act.
- Collect and deliver goods; get recipient’s signature on the trip sheet and delivery note.
- Treat recipients professionally and friendly.
- Represent SANBS positively at all times.
- Hand over goods, trip sheet, and keys to the Dispatch Controller upon return.
- Complete vehicle inspection with the Dispatch Controller.
- No unauthorized goods or route changes without approval.
- Update the Log Book after each trip.
3. Transportation of Passengers (Not applicable to Technical Drivers in zones)
- Confirm passenger details with the Dispatch Controller and get the Transport Request form.
- For international passengers, collect petty cash for parking from the Dispatch Controller.
- Drive to the pickup point and display the SANBS Welcome Board for airport collections.
- Welcome passengers professionally.
- Represent SANBS positively.
- Assist passengers to their destination if needed.
- Request the Completed Customer Service Assessment Form.
- No unauthorized passengers in company vehicles.
- Update the Log Book after the trip.
4. Administrative and Support Duties
- Handle ad hoc tasks as required.
- Answer calls to the transport department professionally and relay messages.
- Clean vehicles.
- Report accidents or incidents to the Dispatch Controller and police within one hour; obtain a case number.
- For Technical Drivers in zones: Assist with clinic preparations and unpack hampers if needed.
