The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is a Section 3(a) public entity under the Ministry of Environmental Affairs, governed by a Board. Established on July 15, 2001, in line with the South African Weather Service Act (No. 8 of 2001), as amended in 2013, SAWS serves as a key authority for weather and climate forecasting in South Africa.

Requirements:
- A National Diploma or NTC 3 certificate, or a relevant comparable qualification, with a minimum of three years of post-trade experience.
- Proficiency in diesel engine and generator maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and fault-finding, with a solid understanding of engine management systems.
- Experience in operating electronic diagnostic tools and interpreting results is essential.
- Familiarity with good workshop practices and the proper use of basic workshop tools, along with a solid understanding of current work, health, and safety policies.
- Experience in refrigeration is advantageous.
- The candidate must be computer literate and possess good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
Key Duties:
- Responsible for the maintenance and operation of power generators and associated equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on air-conditioning, refrigeration, water reticulation, and wastewater systems.
- Handle the replacement and repair of mechanical pumps and valves, as well as pipe fitting.
- Conduct maintenance and repairs on forklifts, telescopic cranes, portable generators, and transfer pumps.
- Operate forklifts and other cargo handling equipment as needed.
- Maintain field huts and related field equipment.
- Report to the team leader and participate as part of the technical team, undertaking additional base-related technical functions as required.
- Prepare monthly and annual reports, conduct stock-takes to order spare parts and equipment, and carry out other common non-technical duties assigned to expedition members.
