Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the clinician during dental procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic environment, including infection control.
  • Plan and prepare for outside clinics, marathon sessions, and outreach programs.
  • Provide clinical patient care.
  • Manage stock, stock the surgery, and maintain equipment.
  • Keep records of work done in a database.
  • Handle waste management and manage patient flow.
  • Follow all departmental rules and protocols.
  • Commit to your own ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dental Assistant.
  • An appropriate qualification or in-service training (less than 2 years) that allows HPCSA registration.
  • For Grade 1: No additional experience needed after qualification.
  • For Grade 2: At least 10 years of relevant experience after qualification.
  • Knowledge of the National Oral Health Policy, norms, standards, and guidelines for primary oral health care.
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Up-to-date vaccinations.
  • Knowledge of patient preparation and dental instruments.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code B/EB) and willingness to travel between primary health care facilities and hospitals.

Salary

Grade 1: R 143 per hour
Grade 2: R 167 per hour
