Data Science Lead

About the Organization

The City of Cape Town, Africa’s third-largest economic hub and legislative capital of South Africa, seeks an experienced data science professional to join our dynamic team.

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Full Time
  • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree (Honours or 4-year program)
  • Preferred Fields: Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, or related quantitative disciplines
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years in relevant field
  • Location: Cape Town, Western Cape

Required Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience managing data science teams
  • Advanced expertise in machine learning, AI, and statistical modeling
  • Strong proficiency with open-source data science tools
  • Experience deploying ML/AI models to production environments
  • Excellent technical communication skills for diverse audiences

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of analytical solutions
  • Oversee quality assurance for data products and models
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Manage model lifecycle from concept to deployment (MLOps)
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing across analytics teams
