SARS manages the South African tax system and customs services. Its key roles include collecting and administering all national taxes, duties, and levies.

Job Purpose
To manage the full life cycle of information effectively. This includes identifying, analyzing, and developing information assets, and assessing business needs for information.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field in Information Management and Reporting. Plus 5-7 years of experience in a similar Data Analytics role, including 2-3 years at a skilled technical level.
Alternative:
- Senior Certificate (NQF 4) plus 10 years of related experience in a similar Data Analytics role, including 2-3 years at a skilled technical level.
Minimum Functional Requirements
- Experience in Data Engineering, Business Data Intelligence, or Data Science. Intermediate skills in data processes, cleaning, analysis, reporting, data models, and database design and testing.
- Knowledge of reporting tools (such as SQL), databases (such as SQL), and programming (SQL, R, Python, etc.).
- Intermediate knowledge of statistics and experience with statistical tools for analyzing data (Excel, SPSS, SAS, R, etc.).
- Intermediate knowledge of data warehouses.
- Proficiency in Basic Data Migration, Basic Data Visualization, Business Intelligence Methodologies, and Database Knowledge.
- Intermediate Programming Skills (such as SQL, Python, R, etc.).
- Microsoft Office skills (proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Process
- Share analysis results and findings using data visualization techniques with internal and external customers.
- Provide specialist input by investigating product processes, including risks.
- Design, develop, and test data analytics solutions such as reports, dashboards, analyses, extracts, and models.
- Maintain and improve existing data analytics solutions to ensure they work well.
- Gather data from various sources and maintain databases, using skills in data extraction, transformation, and business modeling.
- Help filter and clean imported data by checking reports and indicators to fix issues.
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets.
- Perform business analysis using techniques like statistical analysis, modeling, and data mining.
- Research best practices and develop solutions and recommendations for business operations.
- Gather information to track progress, support reporting, decision-making, and identify improvements.
- Apply knowledge to identify trends and risks using methods, systems, and procedures.
- Communicate interpretations and judgments on work outputs and queries in your area of expertise.
- Follow policies, practices, standards, procedures, and laws in your work.
- Use knowledge and experience to diagnose and solve problems.
- Initiate and implement process changes, and provide guidelines for new requirements.
