Customer Development (CD) is what we call our Sales organization at Unilever. We work closely with our customers to pioneer new products, build categories, and use the best retail and shopper capabilities.

Job Purpose

  • Lead the execution of the Market Plan, aligned with the Business Unit (BU) Strategy.
  • Localize the Category Growth Strategy.
  • Execute the strategically aligned Commercial Plan in the market.
  • Decide on Channel and Customer Prioritization in the market and deploy the budget accordingly.
  • Lead Core Capabilities and objective customer engagement (Category Management / Shopper / National Retail Management).
  • For Direct-to-Consumer (D4C) and Direct-to-Retailer (D4R): Execute locally and integrate Channel and Customer upstream into the BU.

Main Responsibilities

Category Growth Strategies

  • Localize, develop, and deploy Category Growth Strategies (CGS) at channel and customer levels.
  • Work closely with Brand, Customer Marketing Insights (CMI), National Retail Management (NRM), and Shopper Marketing to build customer sell-in.

Innovation

  • Define national innovation and launch plans for channels and customers.
  • Track monthly innovation: sell-in and out, and distribution performance.
  • For D4C/D4R: Execute locally and integrate upstream into the BU.

Targets and Budgets

  • Track Underlying Sales Growth (USG) targets and investment to deliver Business Group strategy by channel and customer.

Pricing and Promotions, Mix

  • Own Pricing and Promotion strategy.
  • Own and manage deals.
  • NRM: Ownership of Level 4 and Level 5.

Execution

  • Deploy the strategically aligned commercial plan in the market via Customer Business Development (CBD).
  • Deploy launch plans to channels and customers to ensure strong execution.
  • Implement blueprints via Full Service Agent (FSA) to ensure correct KPIs are measured and linked to Cost of the Consumer (COTC).
  • Track Total Distribution Points (TDP) on COTC and identify opportunities to act on.
  • Define channel and customer execution (Share of Shelf, TDP).
  • Led by Shopper and Digital Marketing.

Capability

  • Deploy core capabilities required to win by Channel and Customer (Category Management / Shopper / NRM).

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Marketing or Sales in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry.
  • BComm degree (preferably in Marketing, Business Administration, or Financial majors).
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional team experience.
  • Strong insight and analytical skills.
  • Previous experience using Nielsen, PowerBI, or customer platforms like Shoprite REX or PnP Info Hub is favorable.
